Pole Pig Source
There are a few of us here who will remember when it was all
but impossible to come across a decent pole pig. I bought my
first pig from The Transformer Bank only to discover that
they later changed their policy and began refusing sales to
Tesla Coilers.
I recently was sent a fax from "United Surplus Associates" ("USA")
who advertise buying, selling, and brokering electrical con-
struction and utility products. Phone: 801-674-4027, Fax:
801-674-4056, Web Site: www.tcd-dot-net/~surplus, E-Mail:

United Surplus Assoc. ("USA") tells me that they have purchased
the database of surplus pole pigs from the company formerly
known as "The Transformer Bank". "USA" is interested in buying,
selling, and brokering commercial/industrial transformers and
switch gear.
While I cannot provide any detail of this company, I can tell
you the surplus database of pole pigs held by The Transformer
Bank (TTB) was second to none. TTB had the plate specs on all
of the surplus pigs sitting in the yard at the General Electric
Hanover plant in North Carolina. The pigs shipped were brand
new GE surplus PCB free still strapped to the original pallets.
My guess based on the plate data and pallet condition of pigs
shipped from this source is that they were GE production over-
runs that were depreciated over the 5 year period allowed under
current US tax codes, then sold off through brokers for pennies
on the pound. A few years ago the going rate (including shipping
charges) was about $1.25 a pound, with many one-off and unusual
pigs available.
Just thought I would pass the info along.
