Hamfest

All,

What a weekend!! The Gaithersburg Md. hamfest was Sunday and boy what a
haul. I know that many of our folks use the hamfest as a means of
scrounging parts. For those who don't, listen to what you missed. I
bought a Jennings 30-300Pf vacuum variable cap with 20 turn vernier dial
for $4.00. I have a radio surplus catalog that shows it in used
condition for $600.00! Alex Tajnsek of our group picked up a Jennings 100
amp vacuum switch (solenoid activated) for $5.00. $250.00 used in
surplus catalog. I picked up two 3KVA Thordarson Plate transformers for
$10.00 each (they all work) 100+lbs each. Three 3mw laser power supplies
(working) $3.00 each. Dental tools $1.00 ea, heavy copper connectors,
etc. pennies each.

The biggest news is the instrumenttion!! I picked up 2 Keithley 915
electrometers (filthy but working) $10.00 each new price $5996.00 each.
Nuts and Volts reconditioned prices $1500.00 each.

I also picked up the fabulolus Keithley 910C electrometer 100%
functional smashed glass on meter face. (4995.00) new. It is still in
catalog. 1000.00 reconditioned. I paid $6.00!!!!! glass was replaced
last night, cleaned up to like new condition.

I next picked up 3 Keithley ultra sensitive picoammeters (digital
readout) Sold as defective for parts only $5.00 each. These babies go
for $6000.00 new 1250.00 reconditioned. I figured I might make one of
'em go. The guy must have been a dork, because he didn't know how to
null them. They are all in perfect shape and ready and rarin' to read in
the ten to the minus 14th amp range.

Next a $10.00 bill bought a Keithley high voltage supply digital voltage
selection type, accurate on digital selection to +/- .5 volt from 300VDC
to 3500 VDC -at-50ma!!! The thing has a 3cx150 transmitting tube for a
series pass regulator tube!
Built like a tank and in perfect working order (was missing a fuse and
its cap.) These supplies cost 5000.00 plus new.

I hit on 100% of the test gear! I also glommed onto 4-866A tubes .25
each. four giant 673 mercury rectifiers. .50 each. 2- KU-25 Hydrogen
Thyratrons (guy knew what he had and ripped me off for $2.00 each).

I unfortunately missed out on 6- .01uf 25KV caps! I leaped on them, but
was waved off as they were sold and the person would be back later to
pick them up. Anyone out there buy "MY" caps??!!

I can't complain though, I did sorta' OK.

I won't be around as much as normal over the next week or so. Big job
carries me away. Will answer mail sporatically as I can. Hit those
hamfests!!
