New Life

All,
I just brought my second coil to life last night. With nice
bright blue sparcs.

Project Mercury --------------------------------------

Secondary coil:

Winding length: 20"
Winding diameter: 4.5"
Number of turns approx: 930
Wire guage: AWG 24 magnet wire
Wire length: 1095'
Resonant frequencey: 378 KHZ
Current tune: 250 KHZ with 4"x7" toriod
Inductive reactance: 47248 Ohms
Approximate "Q": 49
Maximum unloaded "Q": 138
Inductance: 19.9 mH (measured)
Secondary distributed/stray capacitance 8.9 pF
Current terminal capacity: ?

This coil made from Schedule 40 PVC heavily
sealed with polyurethane inside and out. Then
heavily sealed after wire was wound until
surface was sealed to a sheer smoothness. Top
and bottom sealed with 1/4" plexiglass, with
a 1" pvc down the middle as a spindle.

Primary coil:

Winding: flat spiral
Spiral inductor Inside Dia.: 6.5"
Spiral inductor Outside Dia.: 15.5"
Total primary inductance: 16 uH
Total number of turns: 7
Primary inductor outside dia.: 3/8" Copper tubing
Turn to turn spacing: 3/8"

Capacitor bank:
Capacitors: 24 - 5000 pF 16.5 KV big red hockey pucks

4 in parallel ( 2 in series for 32 KV 2500 pF) = .01 mF
In banks suspended by 2 1/4" threaded rods with lexan
insulators. For a total of three bank.

Total: .03 mF

1 Static spark gap with big fan.
9 KV 120 Ma Neon transformer.
Untuned - tapped at end of turn 7: 36" sparks

Next stage:

1) Buy another 7200-240/120 pole pig for a two transformer
parallel - serial 14400 output.

2) Build some poly caps for heavy duty use. .07 uF approx

3) Build a rotary sparc for this coil.

Big red HV Capacitors. Burn Baby burn.
