with lots of insulators. That is a bad thing. That's why toroid are
usually not good for PSU cores.
However, there are other winding topologies actually involving
stacks of toroids (it lookses like OO). It is not that closed
when you wind the transformer through the two holes. It is the
only way for getting into real high frequency I think. It is not
good for coiling as large number of turns is hard to fit. Insulating
that biest is also very nasty. :(

Wow, I wish all that nice stuff like mylar foil and scotch hv tape
were available over here. So far I've always had only a choise of
improvizing something. The last design involved some teflon foil
(intended for cooking :) and looked pretty neat. However, that is when
I really noticed how awfull resonanses can be. It was too tightly wound
and had self resonance way too low :(
