Barry,

Sounds excellent!..._but_ how much input power did you use?
I have a single 15 kV -at- 60 mA neon 
powered coil, multi-section static gap,  0.008 mfd cap (made with a bank of 30
mica's), secondary 24" wound length of #26 on 4.25 inch dia, 3/16" thick
'salvaged' PVC sewer pipe from a construction site.  I luckily found 
some lengths without bulldozer marks.  I did not prep the tube with
any coatings before winding.  Several coats of varathane after,  I can get 52
inchers to a large flat surface grounded metal target.

You're talking to an experienced scrounger here! : )
