No, don't worry about the shorted turn idea. From all I've heard, and
what I've seen, it doesn't cause problems. My own results have never
shown a problem. I have used aluminum solder, available from your local
welding shop, to join the ends. It's kind of hit or miss. If you are
good at it it looks great. If you're like me, you'll end up using
aluminum tape to cover the solder job of the tubing. :-) Seriously, I
soldered the toroid to aluminum pie pans and the joints look great. When
I tried to solder the ends of the tubing together, it was hell. The
stuff's so soft that you can't put much force on it, yet you need to kind
of squash the stuff together for a good solder joint. Nevertheless, you
still can't see it in the photos, so it's not all that bad.
