Re: Primary Qs
Re: "Many of us bring something to the Tesla coil building "table". Not all
can contribute to the same level or in the same area. Most, the vast
majority, just build coils, have fun, and couldn't give a hoot or holler
about what makes 'em go."
There is a scene in Shaw's "Caesar and Cleopatra" where
Cleopatra (a young girl at this point) is being taught to plah
the harp or lute or something. Her tutor is trying to teach her
geometry or something as an introduction to learning to play.
She points out to the tutor that her slave girl plays better than
he does, and he replies something to the effect that "She has just
learned to play in the same way as a dog learns tricks." Cleopatra
replies that "Then I would rather learn to play as a dog does, as
she plays far better than you!". Point is, you can certainly make
stuff work and get pleasure from it without knowing the theory at
all. On the other hand, if you do understand things you can get
additional pleasure from that as well. This is a hobby in which
there is room for everyone (except perhaps for the rabid free
energy/perpetual motion fans who believe their own fantasies - not
all of them believe, of course).
