Hello Storey:
When I built my toroid I had to stop and think about the joining of the
tube ends too. I ended up taking a strip of about 26 gauge aluminum,
coiling it and inserting it in one end of the tube and using some GE RTV
cement to hold it in. Whenit dried I simply slid the other end over it
with some RTV again and held it with duct tape until dry. The entire
thing was covered with aluminum foil tape so looks were of no real
concern. The shorted turn doesn't reall play a role here, since the
duct should also be electrically assembled as part of the conductive
center hub. The whole assembly is like a big flat conductive disc as I
see it. Good Luck with your efforts.
