Re: Polyethylene
I look forward to seeing those.

|Ed,
| This sounded rather attractive initially...

|The problem would be that there are pockets of trapped gas that could
|ionize. The wax/poly mix sounds like a good one so I'll try that
|(before stuffing it in the probe. BTW, it passed initial tests on
|the weekend. I should be in a position to scope the primary before
|long.
|
| Also, I've taken some more photos off the scope but this time
|with a real coil and gap. The pictures showing the effects of
|progressively loading the secondary should be of interest. This was
|done sparkwise with the discharge rod being moved closer for each
|photo. I ran out of film before finishing :( so have more to take. I
|will send them to Jim for ftp inclusion when done. The waveforms ass-
|ociated with tuning the primary from above Fr to below are also
|included (most interesting). You can actually see how the beat
|frequencies vary in amplitude in the time domain.
| There is a photo of the long linear primary decrement I captured
|a month or two back and had waiting in the scope for the camera.
| Including braid clearly shows up in primary Q measurements. And
|raising the primary coil off the ground boosts Q markedly.
| One thing that showed up clearly was how well the primary
|couples to other objects in the vicinity. I was amazed to discover
|that the CP gaps gave little better Q than my dry poly caps in the
|rather confined metal garage. Not only that, but I clearly saw an
|energy interchange between my new unearthed resonator and the primary
|system with the resonator sitting *8 FEET* away!! I had to cart it
|into the house so I could get meaningful primary readings and even
|then, there were artifacts of some smaller resonators that were lying
|around in some of the oscillograms.
