Doug -

 If the clamp is within the magnetic field of the primary coil, it will
in fact act as a shorted turn, since a TC is still a transformer system.

 A toroid terminal way at the top of the coil is far enough away from
the primary coil so as not to be a problem. There is still slight
magnetic coupling, but nothing to worry about.

 My opinon is to not use the clamp, at least not at the bottom of your
secondary where it's right smack in the middle of your primary.
