What is charge ...

> What is charge? I know it repels or attracts but WHAT IS IT?

Charge is one of basic propertis of materia. Same question would be what
is mass.

> What is the charge on a proton?

It seams that proton consist of 3 particles (quarks) two of them have
charge +2/3, and one -1/3 so that total charge is 2/3+2/3-1/3 = 1.

> Where is the point source of the electric charge in an electron?

Point source of electric charge of an electron is electron itself.

> What are electric lines of force?

That is only a way to imagine how electric forses works (nothing more).

> Why can a proton and electron exist in close proximity but a positron and

There is a law in physics which says that summ of charges is constant. And
another law in quantum mechanics which says that only particle and
antiparticle can anihilate each other so that only thing we get is energi.
Electron and positron are antiparticles to each other (same way as
proton-antiproton). Electron and proton are not particle-antiparticle par.
