Chip,
The thing I do to get a squared off edge is to use a piece of paper, (or
anything flexible with a straight edge)and wrap it around the tube. If you
line up the finish to the start you get a guide for a squared off end.
For your 9.5" form you will need a fairly large piece of paper 30"+.
