Loren and Scott,
Tesla did think of the this kind of gap first. We mention it and show a
mock up on our Tape#2. It was built and tested by Fred Glessner of
Washington State. (we have this test on one of our later tapes, too!) It
didn't work too well for Fred as it was too rapid a break and the quench
times were so short that a simple two coil system could not utilize it well.
It might work much better with a magnifier, but I prefer our series quench
rotary for that use.
The secret of the conter-rotating gap is that the number of contacts on the
two wheel should differ by "1" i.e. 3 and 4, 4 and 5, etc.
