Yes, Yes, 20kv, < 1 ma, 100khz - 1mhz
Now the long answer. What you want is a flyback transformer, also known as
a line output transformer used to generate EHT for TV's.
The older types are the best, as the modern ones incorporate diodes.
I saw a circuit for one on one of the Tesla lists. A darlington power
transistor,
and a few simple components.
A friendly TV repairman will have lots knocking about, and circuit diagrams.
Indeed you maybe able to salvage the whole circuit.
Wouldn't run very long on a PP3 battery but certainly 12v, 1A
I haven't done this but it looks straight forward enough.
