For those of you that don't have a vacuum pump, go find a water asperator.
It's commonly used to help remove water from a water bed. It will pull a
vacuum down to about 13 torr (memory working here).

It took me months to find it:) Just look in the phone book under OIL! find a
name brand oil distributor: Shell, Chevron, Citgo, Union 76.... (US brands,
tho some are international) call them up and ask for transformer oil. After
all this looking if found it 2 (that's right two) blocks from my house. They
only had 1 pallet full of 5 gallon pails, in a 1/2 block square wherehouse!
It was $21.95, I had checked the discount pharmacy, about $240 for the 2
gallons I needed!
