I did not think so. Like I said, this 25 kVA core is nothing if
not massive. I have tried to energize the HV side with a 12 KV
neon, but it takes more than a few miliamps to get a magnetic
flux going in such a heavy unit. Combine this with the fact that
the HV winding is grounded internally to the case (with the neon
I was testing it hot cored) it has been rather cumbersome to work
with. The proposed changes should turn this mass of submerged
iron and copper into a valuable power supply for my lab. It is
certainly worth a try considering the price I paid (that old
pack-rat attitude). Anyway, the changes should be completed in a
few more hours, I should have a report to go out in Monday's
mail.
