Re: [TCML] 833A Design Research

Long time ago I replaced a 833A tube with a 833C tube, keeping in mind that both tubes should have the same electrical parameters, only difference is the 833C has a graphite anode. The system was a perfectly working Staccato VTTC BUT with the 833C, the Staccato mode didn't work properly any longer.
I never found an explanation for this.

Stefan

Chris,
I think John Freau still follows this forum some and he has been the guru of VTTCs. Also, alongwith Freau, Steve Ward pioneered a lot of staccato or pulsed, low duty cycle vacuum tube coilcircuits that allow these tubes to be momentarily pushed FAR beyond their nameplate continuousratings for very long pulsed sword like sparks. 833A tubes have a plain metal (tungsten?) grid plate, whereas the 833C's have a graphite grid plate, which means they can take a bit more heat than their (A) counterparts.

Greetings Pupman,

Who's got the most experience with 833 class VTTCs?

What is the max arc length while maintaining a high reliability for a dual
833 coil?

Is there a significant difference between the 833 and the 833A tubes?

Who has the best writeup/schematic for one?

We're looking at building one for a demonstration piece in the new HVL and
this is a field I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. ;) I could
certainly use a little guidance.

Ideas? Suggested resources?

Thank you guys :)
