Hi Tim,
brass tends to be quite brittle and is only 28% as conductive as copper.
I'm aware copper ribbon is also very hard to source.
The next best alternative would be an aluminium ribbon.
It's 61% as conductive as copper, but still twice as good as brass, cheaper
and way easier to find.

copper      1.7×10-8 Ohm m
aluminium  2.8×10-8 Ohm m
brass        5.9x10-8 Ohm m
