RE: [TCML] Copper strap primary

Hi Colin,

I'm using 1" x 1/8" buss on my primary. (approx. 24mm x 3mm) for my Zotzilla
coil. Input power is generally 240V, 45A @7.5kw for a 10 foot arc. Fo is
approx. 42khz. Output voltage of primary xfmr is 12kv and it's a 5kva pole
type with a rating factor of 1.5 to 1.

I think you might be OK with your flat strap if you keep the Fo on the low
side. I've seen another coiler running a similar primary with a 15kva xfmr
with no problems.

Regards,
Hank

Subject: [TCML] Copper strap primary

Hello All,

I am hoping to build a flat copper strap primary and wondered what thickness
people use in 5-10kw coils? I can get 50mm x 0.6mm and that surface area is
much larger than copper tube at 8mm.

What's opinions please?

Cheers,

Colin
