From a TC standpoint, there's nothing special about 8 feet deep. IN fact, if you buried the rod horizontally a foot deep directly under your coil, that would probably work better.


From the National Electrical Code, on the other hand, there's a whole different set of rules. Driving at an angle is acceptable, but these days, a single rod usually can't serve as the sole ground anyway.
