Sounds like what you need is good ol' baling wire. Home Depot and such places sell it, but they think it's called soft iron tie wire. But we know better. You can get a roll of a pound or so. Try feed stores, too.

Can anyone out there recommend a source for soft iron wire (in ordinary
gauges, 18, 20, 22, etc)? I've been searching and all I find are Chinese
exporters who deal in tons. All I need is 2-300 feet or so.
