Re: [TCML] secondary coil form

I have heard that that green sewer pipe is just fine, but I heard it from someone who no longer shows up on TCML and so can't claim it for himself.
I have never used it. I have always used PVC - either the gray stuff, or the white stuff. It has worked for me on 6 coils now of varying sizes - both SG coils and DR coils.
I have even had the occasion to tear up some secondaries I built after racing arcs destroyed them - and none of the PVC suffered any sort of internal arcing, or any other sort of arcing or carbon tracking, anywhere.

Though I have never run my coils over 10kva. So maybe if I ran power like David's Green Monster I might have seen something. But I didn't at my power levels.

And, I have never pained the inside of any secondary I ever made, despite it being recommended by many. I have used varnishes to coat the form, including that Dolph's AC-3 as well as plain old spar varnish. And I have coated my secondary forms with Glyptal red, as I mentioned in a prior post.

There was zero difference between any of those materials as far as electrical performance. What I will say is that the Dolph's bubbles like a madman if you put it on too thick and try to dry it at too cold a temperature. Spar varnish works fine, and the Glyptal makes the form look good - whatever you can see above and below the windings.

I 'found' it on the side of a road where it had been sitting for a year after a line was put in, so it was fair game. Took about 5 minutes to cut with the cordless sawzall though. I have access to plenty of 6" C900 (green water line-rated pipe) or 8" SDR35 (thinner wall non-pressure) PVC on a sewer line project I am working on for NASA, as we are putting in about 83,000 feet of sewer. Since I am the Project Manager, I could claim ownership of any cut pieces to use... Anyone try green or blue pipe and have issues with arc-tracking?
