Sounds to me from the description the NST has ground fault protection. If 
so, it won't work in a Tesla coil circuit as-is.


"The transformer's protection is Class I and its
enclosure class is IP00. It has been equipped
with a signalling sensor for an earth leakage
and an open-circuit protection unit, PDC-
2500."
