The Tesla Science Foundation is proud to present the

2010 Tesla Coil Competition and Display

This is open invitation to all Tesla coil enthusiasts to meet and explore the community of Tesla technology experimentation at its very best. If you have built a Tesla coil (small, large, spark gap, MOSFET-driven, IGBT, magnifying transmitter,....) then now is your chance to demonstrate it to the public and get some $ at the same time. (See
http://www.nikolateslaclub.com/files/2010_Tesla_coil_competition_v1.pdf)

Register your Tesla coil in this event for a raffle with a cash prize.
Each category winner will win a monetary prize. An entry fee of $20 is mandatory for all participants. All proceeds will go either to the cash prize or the rental costs of the generators.

There will be 2 prize categories:

1. Largest size spark discharge

2. The coolest design (crowd favorite)

Where: Independence Hall park area, Philadelphia, PA

When: July 9, 2010 at 6pm to July 10, 2010 at 12am

Restrictions:

The Tesla coils will be plugged into 1 of 2 portable generators provided by us. 120V, 20A, 60hz will be available, as will 240V, 60 Hz.

Radiated emissions must comply with FCC restrictions.

Any spark gaps must have some type of cover to reduce eye exposure to the UV emissions.

Ground cables must be provided. A ground post will be available to connect to.

Judging criteria:

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

1. Spark discharge length to a grounding electrode

2. Overall Aesthethic design

3. Crowd favorite

Setup:

All entries must be present at 6-7PM at the above location to setup.
Vehicles can only stop to discharge/load coils. Parking must be done at a nearby parking garage. Coils will be running at dusk until 12AM. Tesla coils can be taken down any time after demonstrating, but must be removed by no later than 1AM. Coils will be run outdoors on the Independence Mall lawn. This event is weather permitting. Posts, caution tape, and distance will be provided to separate the general public from the Tesla coil discharges.
