An experiment I've suggested on occasions: putting a DC blocking
capacitor in series with the secondary ground connection. Run
the TC for a bit, switch off, then see if there's a DC voltage
built up across the cap. That would indicate if there is a net
transfer of charge away from the topload during operation. I'm
sure there will be, wouldn't like to guess what polarity or
how large.
