You can find HDPE at Wal-Mart, Target, or other places that sell cutting
boards.  When I made the primary <

have I bought the HDPE from http://www.thecuttingboardfactory.com/ .  As I
recall this place was pretty cheap, and they offered handy pre-cut 2'
diameter 1/2" thick boards for a mere $26 or something like that.
