Optimum coupling for the best spark performance.And that one is determined only through the experiment on a real coil.The one you are refering to is theoretically determined  of coupling for the complete transfer of energy between oscillatory circuits.Is the optimum coupling for the best performance of Denicolai's coil k=0.187 as presented at:

Marco Denicolai had a paper in Rev Sci Inst about this.

Antonio Carlos M. de Queiroz did an extensive analysis of this and there 
are optimum couplings for second, third, and fourth order systems of 
many types.
