Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but I think talk promoting looting/grand theft during or after a natural disaster is inappropriate for this forum.

Regardless of where transformers may be "found", or what condition you "think" they are in, they are the property of the power company.
Period.

If you take one, you are commiting grand theft.

Period.

Is there any difference between stealing a downed pole pig, and stealing the wheels and tires off a vehicle that was washed into the vacent lot at the end of your street?

Or entering a storm-damaged house to see if you can find anything worth "taking"?

Not in my book.

Kind of disappointed that so many TCML members seem ready to load their trucks up at the first opportunity ....

Herr Zapp

Ahhh yes I remember the plight of the forgotten piggie left all alone destitute amoung the barren plains alone forgotten
and yes! Resurected from certian death of decay ... this is so kewl..
I wish I had the same oportunity to do so cuz buying 300$ of piggies and have a 600$ shipping cost was a bit harsh. Some people have all the luck... on the way to work I saw 2 piggies on the curb which had already been replaced just sitting there waiting for a "rescue".. altho they had broken insulators and the other had a split in the can both in the 15-25KVA size if I only had more room in the back of the truck!!!

all I have to say is ... if its on the ground or not live, then its fair game...

I have to agree with you Herr Zapp, I posted this message on Friday and for some reason it didn't make it to the list.

I live at Hurricane Charley ground zeo and I personally wouldn't touch those transformers. I can tell you that people were picking up aluminum powerline cable and transformers and they were getting arrested every day for it. Although the equipment is on the ground it still belongs to the power company and under emergency conditions law inforcement doesn't play nice when it comes to things like that. I would have to ask myself if it is realy worth the it? One phone call from a passer-by and you got some splain'n to do Lucy.Just a thought.
