Re: [TCML] Secondary and Primary Assistance

Hi DC,

I have to ask the same as Scott. My 13" sonotube coil retained it's print (no problems). And the printing industry is a major part of my experience. Inks which are conductive are typically due to the technology needed for printing. But these are expensive inks and it makes no sense why those inks would be used on sonotube. Conductive inks are only needed due to the printing technology. Ink jet or laser printing, no. But when "toner" is used such as a Zerox printer, then conduction is certain as the toner must be conductive to magnetically adhere to the belt or cylinder used for ion deposition technologies (ion deposition technology is when conductive inks enter the picture).

It would surprise me if sonotube would use any type of ion deposition technology to simply implant logo data. This technology is far more expensive and thus it doesn't make sense from a dollar standpoint. However, I haven't performed any testing on the sonotube printing (I'm simply speculating from my experience in the printing industry).

Take care,
Bart

In a discussion thread about using sonotubes as secondary coil forms, you mentioned that "The print is conductive".

Just out of curiosity, is this known to be true (i.e. you've measured the conductivity of the ink printed on the form with a megohmmeter or something similar), or is it an assumption?

Regards,
Scott Hanson

This is also removed by peeling or sanding. The print is conductive.

Dr. Res,
I wanted to jump in on this one and ask; do you do anything re: the
printing
on the outside of the tube? I've heard people mention sanding off, peeling
off or whatever, the outside layer because of the black ink before
sealing.
Have you had any problems with that or do you just coat right over it?
Thanks!

Neal.
