Re: [TCML] Depotting Epoxy NST

Yep,

A long time ago, I depotted an old Analog Devices discrete component precision op amp module that was potted in black epoxy. I immersed it in methylene chloride at room temperature for about 2 weeks. The epoxy turned rubbery from the outside in, and could be crumbled off or shaved off about 1/8" at a time to expose fresh material inside. Only problem was that it also removed all the color bands from the resistors, the cases from the caps, and the epoxy bodies from the ICs inside the module. Eventually, even the layers of the glass epoxy PCB separated. It probably would destroy the enamel on the insulation of your transformer windings, rendering it useless.

almost impossible to remove the epoxy without using exotic solvents that will make the whites of your eyes turn some weird color.... as my memory fails me from using not so weird exotic solvents... i think there is some type of methyl based solvent that can "soften" the epoxy but Im not too sure what it will do to the insulation on the wire.... someone out there knows the answer it will show up soon
