Re: [TCML] Polishing Metal (ie Brass) after machining . . .

the easiest way is to have it done professionally, but thats pricey.
Depending on your finish after machining, ( worst case senerio) sand surface with 220 grit then 400, then 800, then 1500 ( emory cloth types, normally a cloth backed material). Next step, go to a polishing "rouge" ( a reddish paste stick, can be found in better automotive stores) applied to a cotton buffer wheel. After that has been completed, use a polishing paste like SemiChrome or Flitz ( supposedely they run in the 8-10 thousand grit size) to get the "mirror" finish. I prefer to apply a wax as a final ( carnuba) touch, helps deter tarnishing for a few months.

BTW use light pressure with the buffer wheel, a heavy hand can lead to "lumping" of the material being polished.

Another machining question . . .

What is the best way to finish and polish metal (such as brass,
aluminum), once it is machined?

Thanks
