Re: [TCML] Tesla Coil Problem: Capacitors?

Hi Scott,

I think your caps are fine if a 2 x 12 array. The transformer however is likely the problem. If you were to set your spark gap width to arc across a single tube (minimum spacing) with the NST (no caps or coil), you'll probably find only a single snap will occur and then all will be quiet. When the gap fires across a gap in a TC, it shorts the NST output. Your particular power supply is designed to shut down in this situation. You need to get your hands on a real NST and not one of these little solid state things. You want a high voltage transformer with no gfi or short circuit protection.

Take care,
Bart
