Hi Rich,

I always clean and coat the inside and outside of the pvc before winding 
to help keep moisture out of the pvc as much as possible. It's really 
quick and simple to do this. I expect you have an open tube on each end? 
If so, it helps to cap both the top and bottom. Also adding internal 
discs (baffles) also helps to prevent these problems. As far as the wax 
goes, I'm sure it's fine as is if you don't mind it being there. There 
is more than one way to skin a cat and it looks like you found a method 
a little different. But for future reference, a little prep to the form 
before winding goes a long way.
