Subject: Power supply current

Hello,

While I was operating my coil the other day, I noticed something
interesting. With the power supply leads shorted out, it draws quite a
bit less current than with the whole Tesla coil connected. Does anyone
know why this is? The tank capacitor isn't even near the resonant value.
I think it may have something to do with the voltage doubler in the power
supply - it consists of two MOTs and a doubler circuit.

Thanks,
Chris
