Hey Doc,

That looks like nice stuff.  I've actually thought of using cartridge paper 
from pool and water filters because it would allow circulation of the 
insulator to some extent.  This Nomex sounds like it would too.  The biggest 
problem is the exclusion of all air.  If the interleave can absorb oil it is 
so much better.  The least amount of air you start off with, the least 
amount you'll have to worry about later on!

In the past even silk and cloths were used, oil-impregnated.  For primary 
coils using flat strap, and a wider spacing, cardboard was normally used.  
Many units though had primary coils made as thin copper strap (1" wide x a 
few thousanths thick) separated by thin oiled paper...but then again most of 
the primary circuits were powered from tanks using less than 2000 volts...
