I'd appreciate some advice on this. Once an NST has been unpotted,
does it need to be repotted to safely run it? Or can it be run dry
without being immersed in any potting material - i.e., just the bare
core &coils? Thanks. Dennis Hopkinton, MA

Dennis,

I run mine dry and have had no problems. But I replace the mica
core-to-secondary insulation layers with polyethylene sheets. Some
sort of insulation is necessary at those locations. Some folks repot them
in a mixture of vaselene and mineral oil.
