Re: [TCML] De-potting NSTs? ? ?

If you are going to all this trouble, why not use a 12/60 to start with? Then you could push it to around 200 mA if you drop it into a tubberware container filled with xmfr oil.

Many experimenters put them in the icebox first and whack them with a hammer. Then, when some of the larger chunks are removed, they use a bed of charcoal (or a grill) to slowly heat the mass up to boiling point of water. Most don't do it indoors in a kitchen stove as it can really stink things up including the stove. A bed of charcoal and supporting the xmfr above the charcoal seems the best solution. Final cleanup is with kerosine. DO NOT use gasoline. It works good but the risk of explosion is very high. Kerosine is probably the best choice.

Subject: [TCML] De-potting NSTs? ? ?

Hi all!

Just curious if anyone can share some information with me?

I am toying with the idea of 'de-potting' my 12/30 NST. I have heard that bathing the xfmr in solvents is a good way, but is it the best? Also, how far could I push it? I often hear of 100mA output.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Matt R.

P.S.

I ran my coil for the first time last night! Havn't tuned her yet, so only small sparks. Happy that it works, though! ! ! :)
