Re: Building the right capacitor

Hi Kyle,

The value of the Cp cap will depend on your sparkgap. The mains resonant value (Cres) for your source is 21.2 nf. A good value for a static gap is 1.5-1.6 * Cres or 32-34 nf. If you use a SRSG, you will want around 2.8 * Cres or about 60nf. With a 15KV source rated at 120Vin, the peak output voltage will be 21.2KV. If you plan on using a variac and running at 140Vinput, the peak output voltage will be about 24800 V. If using the CDE 942 series, 2KV per cap, I would recommend using 14 per string for the 140V operation.

What parts are needed to build a capicator for a 15kv 120 ma transformer and do you have any tips on building it?

Cheers,

Kyle
