Sure!  Those stainless steel gazing balls are fine.

The metal is roughly 1/16 inch thick so they are pretty light. The steel is very hard so they don't dent easily. Not as perfectly shaped electrostatically as a toroid, but they are cheap and easy "nice" terminals. They are pretty scratch resistance and can be wiped clean easily. The surface is mirror polished with small distortions and where the two halves were welded but they polish all that out in a final step so you don't notice.

But the link is dead now. But they are common if you search around. Be careful of the price since the fancy home center stores have a high markup on them.
