Glad that nowadays I just use clear acrylic tube. Usually it gets scrapped if there's inpurities in it, especially if it's optical grade. Not sure if there's "electrical grade" pvc pipe other than the grey conduit, but that only goes to 3" diameter I think.

Electrical grade PVC is available in huge sizes. But I wouldn't think that this guarantees that it doesn't have particles in it. Non metallic raceway (e.g. plastic conduit) is there for mechanical protection of the wire, not as insulation.


This IS a fascinating discovery, though. It might explain some interesting things: why some PVC gets hot in a microwave, for instance.
