Re: Skycraft Surplus

I recommend to skip Disney World, and make Skycraft your primary destination! You never know what you will find there. Used to be that I would go straight for the high voltage capacitor section at the back wall. Not now though, with the new metal poly caps that we all use in our coils. I have seen the GE 42L mmc caps there, but the price on them was around $5.00 each. Best deals that I have had there was in the misc junk bins. I found a piece of G-10 Phenolic there one time that is about 12" x 16" x 1/2" for $15.00 . One of these days, I will get a machinist to cut it into a rotary spark gap plate.... Skycraft is also great for small parts in things like standoffs, insulators, line filters, and unusual shapes made from things like delrin, teflon and phenolic. Sometimes I buy bags of things that I don't have a specific application for, but just know that somewhere down the line, it will come in handy.
Good luck hunting, let us all know if you come up with a great find.

I'll be visiting Disney World in Orlando with the kiddies in a couple
weeks. The last time I was there was about 7 years ago, and I had also
visited a place called Skycraft Surplus, in Winter Park, FL, near
Orlando. Can anyone make a recommendation yea or nay, as to whether
it's worthwhile? I don't expect to come out with NST's or MMC caps,
(truth is, I don't actually need anything) but I do enjoy a good
dumpster dive through interesting junque. Just wondering if it's
changed since I was there last.
