do you remember me giving a link on the russian site? one quote from
there:

"the researches has showed, that for rotor on fig. 3.6a the optimal
sizes would be:
the ratio of the pole span to the pole pitch - 0.5-0.6;
dmax/dmin=10-12."

so i think that here are at least some general rules and enough hard
data - maybe there is somebody on the list, who works in that business
and know that data?

btw - tho i generally agree with you, i think that idea of using
FEMM in each peculiar case was not bad one ; ) i wish i had more free
time % )
