Re: Ozone

Hi Ralph,

Yep, ozone is a very potent oxidizing agent - significantly more than oxygen. In addition to aggressively rusting tools in the area, I've also observed that it bleaches paper. I once had a tablet of blue-lined paper in the same room as my Tesla Coil. Over a period of six months or so, the top sheets became bleached to the point where the lines were just barely visible.

As you can imagine, it's also pretty good at oxidizing lung tissue... :^P

Hi all,
I am suddenly having a problem with severe tool rusting in an
otherwise dry basement where I play with the TCs and other ozone
forming toys.
I run fans and a large dehumidifier. A hygrometer says the humidity
is a low 40%. The temperature is seldom above 75 F. The ozone levels
are never stronger than what I consider to be just *smellable,*never
strong or intolerable.
Is there any evidence out there to support the idea that low levels of
ozone can cause rusting on iron/steel tools? Thanks.
Ralph
