Re: Pictures of my 2KW coil and the 8x32 concrete toroid

Hi Dmitry,

Oops, I forgot your other questions.

The frequency of strike rail hits did go down, and I also lowered the strike rail 2 inches. By how much, maybe by a factor of 2-3. I'm about to simulate using the two toroids (6x24 on bottom and 8x32 on top), but havent tried it yet. I want to see if I can still charge it with my power level.

The 86 inch wasn't captured on film (it was a few inches shorter). The 86 inch ones were very infrequent and I lost patience getting a power arc captured so I settled for 84 just to get a picture. Didn't measure the streamer length without a breakout, but you can probably scale from the picture using the toroid size (32 inchs) as reference. See the last picture for this.

Btw, with the larger toroid, I also have a few (real) ground strikes that I didnt capture on film.

Hello Gerry.

what`s the height the toroid is mounted at - around 30cm? look here:

http://cis.ru/~dest/m.JPG

it`s an approximately model of your coil - i`ve calculated that the
field strength around corona ring is more 30kv/cm - don`t you have
any problems with the corona at such toroid height?

if we comapare the old toroid with the new one - has the frequency of
strike rail hits changed, if yes - how much?

have you tried using both toroids simultaneously - your old at the
small height, plus a new one - maybe then you could lift the new
toroid more highly?

and without the breakpoint?
