hey Gerry  and Jerry.....

depends on the 1750 motor 2 flats can be used also... and milling the flats is better than grinding.. balance is important. I had a formula for the flat measurements but cant find it... check the List archives from about 3 yrs ago it may be found there..

as far as finding motors, Herbach and Rademan ( spelling??) has a wide variety to choose from and they are affordable too... quick delivery too.

Hi Jerry,

It is fairly easy to modify an async motor for sync operation. A 1750 rpm moter has 4 poles. You need to pull the armature out and (with an angle grinder) put four flat spots at 90 degrees to each other. The width of the flat spot is important and can be determined from a measurement off of the stator coil.

Thanks Scott for the info, It realy helped me understand the differance! Now where can I find a motor that runs @ 1800 rpm? What kinds of aplications are they used in?
