Hi Devon,

Depending on where you are the first thing on this http://members.iinet.net.au/~pterren/Misc.htm page may help you. It Drops the mains down to 50Volts ac (classed as extra low voltage in most places) and then steps it up again. If you still want to use a car battery two ignition coils fed from an oscillator would run a micro coil from a car battery nicely.
