Hi Scot,

Google up Cooper's power xfmr site. They list all the oils that they use. Castor and mineral oils are on the list, at least the last time I checked.

I used mineral oil to replace the volume of oil missing in a cracked Maxwell cap I got from Ebay... UPS must have had some really POed package handiler in on of the several hubs that my cap went thru.... I have dropped maxwell caps on to the cement floor from 4 feet and no damage but ship it UPS in a double box with bubble wrap in triple layers along with foam peanuts ( you would think that it could take at least a 4G impact ;) ) it arrives soggy sticky and with an open wound that would make a person die from loss of blood.... :)

I have also used Castor oil to replace oil loss in Maxwell caps with no detrimental effects.

If anyone out there knows for sure what oil is used in maxwell caps, I would like to know.....

A while back I asked about repairing a cracked and leaking Maxwell pulse cap. I haven't tried any of the kind suggestions that you guys recomended, but will. Since then we received quite a selection of new to almst new maxwells for dirt cheep. Unfortunately the seller did not use any packing material what-so-ever! At least one cap (a brand new 0.1uF, 40kV) is drained empty, I could cry. Does anyone know what kind of oil Maxwell uses? My talented buddy wants to build a plastic case, and place the guts in it to try a repair. As always thanks for all the great help.
