electric and/or magnetic fields in a section of waveguide for different
ratios of dimensions to each other and to the wavelength.  Might be
kinda interesting to stick typical MO parameters into it.  There will be
a question of which modes are excited.

A classic and fascinating demo of the mode structure is to glue marshmallows as a solid layer to a piece of cardboard and put it in the oven. The mode pattern gets melted into the stuff.
