What makes the green sewer pipe different? I see this in the larger sizes
and it seems different than the white pvc, harder and heavier.

Hi,
The larger the diameter of a pipe, the easier it is to crush, especially if 
the pipe is not under internal pressure. Usually a sewer pipe is at 0 psig. 
and the larger sizes are often used under driveways, roads, etc. They must 
therefore be much more rigid to stand up to this environment.
