Matthew replies:
With a nitrogen flood, there shouldn't be enough oxygen around to make NxOx 
(or ozone for that matter). The incoming gas should displace the air in the 
manifold (which is already mostly nitrogen) so there wouldn't be a lot with 
which nasties could be formed.

If you're really paranoid, you can pump down the manifold with a vacuum 
pump (old refrigeration compressor will do) before admitting the nitrogen.
